Six years back, during my gap year, I studied in Jerusalem. Our school took us on field trips and hikes no less than once a month, and we got to see the length and breadth of this beautiful, war-torn country. I can no longer remember exactly where I took this photo, but I suspect it was in the desert lowlands somewhere not far from Eilat. Though my memory is a tad faulty (oh, old age! :P ) the photo remains one of my favourites, and reminds me that beauty can flourish even in adversity.
